The family of Muktinath Adhikari, a teacher who was k!lled by the UCPN (Maoist) during the decade-long armed insurgency, has lodged a complaint against the Maoists at Lamjung District Police Office. Adhikari’s widow Indira registered the complaint on Thursday in the presence of representatives of Peace Brigade International Nepal, Advocacy Forum and Insec.
The complaint names Maoist District Secretary Debendra Poudel and former rebels Sadhuram Ghimire of Ishaneshwor-4 and Dhruba Adhikari of Kaski as the culprits. On Jan 16, 2002, Maoist cadres had abducted Adhikari from the school where he worked and later shot him de@d at nearby Chanpata.
The victim’s son Suman Adhikari said he would knock on the doors of the Supreme Court for justice if need be. The complaint states there has been violation of the right to live and of Article 12 of the Interim Constitution. The complainant has demanded immediate action against the guilty.
Local Maoist leaders have termed the move a step against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. DSP Sandip Bhandari said police would investigate into the k!lling.
